This site features observations about print culture in the digital age, printing processes, and rare printed materials from student participants in “The Art of the Press,” an Intersession class offered at Johns Hopkins University in collaboration with the Maryland Institute College of Art in January 2014 and 2015. Photos, also by students, show the MICA studio, their own printing projects, our field trips to the Baltimore Museum of Industry, the Walters Art Museum, and the Peabody Library, and rare materials from the Sheridan Libraries, Johns Hopkins University. The class is taught by Gabrielle Dean, curator of literary rare books and manuscripts at JHU, and Mary Mashburn on the printmaking faculty at MICA, with able assistance from Allison Fisher.
More information about JHU collections and class offerings can be found here.
